Orgling: One of the Alpaca’s magic sounds
July 30th, 2009I remember my first year working with alpacas in USA, trying to learn as much as I can, the way that Americans raise alpacas. One of the first things that I learned was how to imitate the alpaca sounds; the orgling is one of it and I practiced until almost copycat one of the studs. The breeders who saw me doing it were surprise and even laughed but this trick help me in many ways. Here is how this magic sound can help you:
1- For those breeders who don’t have a male or even a pet male to check for receptive females or for spit check; the answer simple, you can do it yourself! Just place the female in a small pen 8 x 8, put your hand over the lumbar area and start squishing and pushing down, while you imitate the magic sound Orgling.
2- This is the one that I like the most: Who didn’t have a couple of males fighting and screaming all over the pasture? And in your way to stop the fight you got the deepest green in the face? The answer is simple, start orgling and you will see how your males will stop fighting and turn their heads toward you trying to find who is breeding? Who is the lucky one? As always males only think about breeding.
3- For those males that are not interested in breeding, most of the time like junior herd sires, inexperienced males or even skilled males, the orgling sound can help. Place the male and the female in the breeding pen and start orgling, the male will assume that there is competition, and will start doing the job (nobody likes competition).
Start practicing orgling and let me know how this works for you, if not could be because you need more practice :-)
And don’t forget keep humming the Alpacapro is coming………………
